Box Score PATCHOGUE, NY - Wrapping up their fall season on a strong note, the #4 seeded Yeshiva women's tennis team were taken down by #1 St. Joseph's University Long Island, losing to the Golden Eagles by a score of 5-0 on Wednesday, Oct. 18.
Despite putting up tough fights in all three doubles matches, the Maccabees could not capture a win, going into singles down, 3-0. Unable to turn their fortunes around in singles play, the Macs would fall in both the No. 1 and No. 4 seeded matches, in so doing ceding enough points to SJLI for the Golden Eagles to claim the dual match.
About the contest, Coach Miller had to say, "a tough end to a great season. The ladies got some good playoff experience, which puts us in great position for next year."
With the result, the Macs officially close out the 2023 season with a 2-6 record, 2-5 in conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Doubles:
- Despite watching the duo of Shira Adler/Micka Mamoun fall in the No. 1 seeded match without taking a game off of their opponents, the Macs continued to battle, seeing the pairs of Liana Friedman/Anna Laufer and Sarah Leiderman/Sarah Grunseid fight hard against their Skyline adversaries.
- However, both teams ended up falling by scores of 8-6 and 8-4 respectively, dropping Yeshiva into a difficult 3-0 hole headed into singles matchups.
Singles:
- Unable to rebound in singles play, the Macs could not overcome the opposition despite their best efforts. Both Adler and Laufer lost in straight sets in their respective matchups, giving SJLI the five points they needed to spell an end to Yeshiva's strong season.
UP NEXT
Returning to the court one last time this year in the spring of 2024, the Macs will travel across the Hudson to take on Ramapo College on Sunday, Apr. 7 at 1:00 p.m.
