BROOKLYN, NY - Still searching for their first win of the season, the Yeshiva women's volleyball team fell to St. Joseph's University Brooklyn by a score of 3-0 on Sunday, Oct. 15.
Proving the driving force behind the Maccabee attack, the duo of
Elle Ohayon and
Zoey Botnick helmed Yeshiva's offense, with Ohayon notching seven kills while Botnick tallied a season-high mark of 10 assists.
Alongside
Aleesa Elbaum, Ohayon also had a dominant night defensively, with the pair putting up stat lines of 11 and 10 digs respectively.
With the loss, the Macs are 0-6, 0-5 in conference.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Despite falling behind early on in the first set, going down 10-3, the Macs clawed their way back, relying on the offensive prowess of the Botnick twins to get them within striking distance at 11-7. However, while the Yeshiva offense proved far more effective than it has in recent weeks, it could withstand the SJU onslaught. Kills from Ashley Botnick, Talia Finn and Ohayon kept the Macs' point total steadily ticking upwards, but it was not enough, as Yeshiva dropped the set, 25-14.
- Suffering from the same early woes as the first, the Macs fell behind to kick off the second set, trailing by as many as 11 points at 17-6. Not giving up quite yet, a Ohayon kill spurred a 6-3 Yeshiva rally, sparking hopes of a comeback with the Macs down just eight at 22-14. However, while the Maccabees would manage two more points, their efforts would fall short, losing the set, 25-16.
- Down but certainly not out, Yeshiva roared to life at the outset of the third set, springing out to their largest lead of the season at 8-0. Not to be outdone however, SJU stormed back, going on an 8-0 run of their own to even the playing field. Both squads would trade points back and forth, tying the match up once again at 15-all. It was then that the Bears were finally able to pull away, scoring 10 to Yeshiva's one and taking the set 25-16.
