Women’s Volleyball Captures First Set Win of Season In Loss Versus Mount Saint Vincent

NEW YORK, NY - Taking home a set win for the first time in 2023, the Yeshiva women's volleyball team were downed by The College of Mount Saint Vincent, falling to the Dolphins by a score of 3-1 on Thursday, Oct. 19.

Offensively, the Maccabees saw excellent outings out of both Talia Finn and Elle Ohayon, with the first-year players each notching six kills on the night, while Finn also secured three service aces.

Ohayon also had a stellar night on the defensive end of the ball, locking down the floor with a team-leading mark of ten digs.

With the loss, the Macs are now 0-8, 0-7 in conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Both squads started off the first set trading points back and forth, with neither able to gain any meaningful separation. It was not until the scoreboard read 8-6 that a 5-0 run allowed CMSV breathing room from Yeshiva, and while a Mac squad spurred on by Finn's offensive prowess fought back, it proved too little to catch the Dolphin offense. Yeshiva went on to drop the period, managing just five more points and falling 25-11.

  • It was not until the second set that the Mac offense struck gold. Jumping out to a massive lead at 12-7, helped on by an early 5-0 run, Mount Saint Vincent had no answers to Yeshiva's dominant attack. The Dolphins would finally catch up, leveling the playing field at 14-all, but unlike previous contests when the Maccabee offense would simply fold, the Macs stood strong, keeping up blow for blow with CMSV. The two teams traded leads back and forth, neither able to shake the other, finding themselves deadlocked at 21-21. While CMSV took the next point, the Macs stormed back with four of their own, claiming the set and their first "1" in said column all season long. After a superb serve from Moriah Berkovitch forced a Dolphin attack error for the 25th point, an audible cheer went up through the gymnasium, as the fans and players alike realized what had just been accomplished.

  • Unfortunately for Yeshiva, their momentum from the second set would quickly dissipate going into the final two, being held to a combined five kills throughout and falling 25-7 and 25-12 in the third and fourth respectively. In the end, the Macs were downed by a score of 3-1 by their Skyline rival.
