Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Women’s Volleyball Keeps It Close, Falls to Mount Saint Mary

NEW YORK, NY - Playing in their penultimate home game of the 2023 season, the Yeshiva women's volleyball team were downed by Mount Saint Mary College, losing to Knights by a score of 3-0 on Sunday, Oct. 22.

Offensively, the Maccabees were captained by Talia Finn and Zoey Botnick, with Finn notching seven kills and two aces while Botnick put up a team-leading mark of eight assists.

Finn also had a monster game on the defensive end of the ball, tallying 12 digs and almost racking up a block on a ball that fell just beyond the line. Ashley Botnick joined in on the defensive dominance, leading the team with 13 digs of her own.

With the result, the Macs are now 0-9, 0-8 in conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Both squads battled right out the gate in set number one, exchanging leads multiple times and seeing the match tied at 5-all, 7-all, and 9-all. It was then however that Mount Saint Mary were able to secure some breathing room and take over the contest, going on a 16-2 run to close out the set, 25-11.

  • Jockeying for position once again to kick off the second set, the Macs jumped out to advantages of 4-2 and 6-4 before MSM caught back up at 6-all. Try all they might, neither team could shake the other, with the lead changing hands three times before the scoreboard read 13-13 halfway through the set. While 4-0 and 4-1 runs allowed the Knights to somewhat break away, the Macs proceeded to reel them right back in, tying the match at 18-18 and 24-24 each time MSM attempted to close things out. Unfortunately though, despite their best efforts, Yeshiva finally ran out of gas, dropping the final two points of the set to lose 26-24

  • Much like the previous two sets, the Macs kept things close early on, leveling the score three separate times and even leading at 11-9. Ultimately however, Yeshiva could not keep up with the MSM attack, as despite back-to-back points from Estee Einhorn and Moriah Berkovitch sparking hopes of a comeback, a 16-4 stretch from the Knights officially closed out the Macs, 25-15.
