NEW YORK, NY - Competing in their first road game of the season, the Yeshiva women's basketball team fell to Baruch College, losing to the Bearcats by a score of 77-68 on Friday, Nov. 10.
Offensively, the Maccabees were captained by yet another monster game from
Daniella Bessler, with the guard putting up a staggering statline of 32 points and five assists. Not alone on the court of course, Bessler got some major help from her teammates, with
Jasmin Maly-Danker and
Sara Yolkut putting up 11 and 10 respectively.
Proving dominant on both ends of the court, Bessler and Yolkut also had excellent games defensively, with Bessler snagging four steals while Yolkut tallied two steals and a block.
With the loss, the Macs are 1-1 on the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- While Baruch jumped out to an early 6-1 lead three minutes into the first quarter, the Macs were not about to be walked over, roaring back to within two at 8-6 halfway through the period. The Macs would continue to spar with the Bearcats but never overtake them, hearing the horn buzz at the end of the first 10 minutes down 21-14.
- Baruch's lead would grow to kick off the second period, going up by as many as 13 with 8:44 left in the half. Seeing points from Bessler, Maly-Danker and Yolkut, Yeshiva were able to match the pace of the Bearcat attack, but were not able to outpace it, going into the break trailing by a margin of 46-31.
- Despite Baruch's lead ballooning out to 17 to start the second half, the Macs would fight back, riding a 12-2 run to get back within seven at 52-45. This margin would hold through the end of the third, with the Macs heading into the final period down 63-54.
- Capturing a bit of fire in a bottle, the Macs started off the final ten minutes of play on a tear, with seven quick points from Yolkut and Bessler getting them within two at 63-61 with 6:34 left to play. Unfortunately for Yeshiva's hopes of a comeback, this success was as close as the Maccabees would get to matching Baruch's score. The Macs went on to stumble throughout the rest of the period, ultimately falling, 77-68.
