Women’s Basketball Downs Purchase, Stays Undefeated In Conference

NEW YORK, NY - Capturing their second straight Skyline win of the season, the Yeshiva women's basketball team defeated Purchase College, felling the Panthers by a score of 68-43 on Sunday, Nov. 12.

Offensively, the Maccabees saw three three players score in double digits, with Daniella Bessler leading the way with 25, while Shai Rahamim and Jasmin Maly-Danker put up 14 and 13 respectively.

Showing her proficiency for all things hoops, Rahamim also had an excellent day on the defensive end of the ball, swatting down a block while at the same time teaming up with Maly-Danker and Abigail Koenig to snatch a combined 12 steals.

With the win, the Macs are 2-1, 2-0 in conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Rahamim opened the scoring in the first minute of the first quarter, sinking a three that gave the Macs a lead they would never surrender. Proving lethal from downtown, Yeshiva's advantage ballooned out to 9-3 thanks to two more triples from Bessler and Maly-Danker, securing the Macs' hold on the contest early on. This scoring clinic would continue throughout the rest of the quarter, a wonder that Purchase could only sit back and watch as Yeshiva went on to put up 20 by the end of the period to the Panther's six.

  • While defenses ruled to kick off the second quarter, as no points were scored over the first two and a half minutes of play, Bessler finally broke the ice with a fastbreak layup, increasing Yeshiva's margin to 22-6. Purchase would fight back, managing to notch ten more points over the final seven minutes, yet the Maccabee attack was more than up to the task, easily keeping their opponent at arm's length and going into the half with a comfortable 34-16 lead.

  • Handling the third quarter much like the first two, Yeshiva's lethal offense continued to rain down shots from all over the court, seeing Bessler, Rahamim, Koenig, and Hannah Rashty splash in 22 more points to Purchase's 11, opening the final period at 56-27.

  • While Purchase pulled the game somewhat back in the fourth quarter, managing to outscore the Macs 16-12, Yeshiva's lead proved insurmountable, as the Macs walked out of Baruch with a 68-43 win under their belts.
