Women’s Basketball Stumbles at Five Towns

DIX HILLS, NY - Still searching for their first non-conference win of the season, the Yeshiva women's basketball team fell to Five Towns College, losing to the Sound by a score of 69-56 on Monday, Nov. 13.

Offensively, the Maccabees saw two players score in the double digits, with Shai Rahamim and Jasmin Maly-Danker leading the way with 22 and 19 points respectively.

Rahamim also had a big night for the Macs on the defensive end of the ball, snagging six steals while Daniella Bessler pulled down a team-high mark of 10 rebounds.

With the result, the Macs are now 2-2 on the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Despite Maly-Danker sinking the first bucket of the game to put Yeshiva up 2-0 just 30 seconds into the contest, the Macs proceeded to fall behind early, allowing Five Towns to score 15 unanswered. Thanks to the offense of Maly-Danker and Bessler the Macs were able to scrape back somewhat, yet still found themselves in a significant 23-13 hole come the end of the period.

  • Both squads spent the entire second quarter going blow for blow, answering their opponent's basket with one of their own. While the Mac offense battled hard, this stalemate saw them make no progress towards eliminating the Sound lead, a result that saw the women in blue and white headed into the half down 38-29.

  • While a jumper from Maly-Danker and a deep triple from Abigail Koenig pulled Yeshiva back within seven at 42-35 four minutes into the second half, that success would not last. Five Towns proceeded to reestablish their dominance over the game, going up by as many as 19 points and closing out the third quarter leading the Macs 59-42.

  • While Yeshiva managed to outscore the Sound in the final period, putting up 14 to Five Towns' 10, their deficit proved too large to overcome in the final ten minutes of play, as the Macs suffered their second consecutive non-conference loss by a score of 69-56.
