BRONXVILLE, NY - Taking their first loss of the season at the hands of a Skyline opponent, the Yeshiva women's basketball team fell to Sarah Lawrence College, losing to the Gryphons by a score of 76-57 on Thursday, Nov 16.
Offensively, the Maccabees saw another excellent game out of
Daniella Bessler, with the dynamic senior leading the team with 29 points, 10 rebounds and three assists.
Also earning her keep,
Shai Rahamim had herself a game on the defensive end of the ball, snagging a team-high four steals on the night.
With the loss, the Macs are now 2-3, 2-1 in conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Macs started off the game strong, jumping out to a 5-0 lead behind buckets from Bessler and Jasmin Maly-Danker before Sarah Lawrence had a chance to respond. This Mac advantage would not last long however, as an 8-0 Gryphon run gave SLC their first leg up of the contest. The lead would proceed change hands three more times before the end of the period, with Yeshiva coming out on top, sporting a slim 16-14 margin thanks to a buzzer-beating triple from Abigail Koenig.
- Yeshiva grew their advantage early in the second, leading by as many as seven points at 24-17 with 7:44 left in the half. Sarah Lawrence would rebound however, tying the game at 24-all. Despite their best efforts, neither team could shake the other, seeing the contest leveled twice more at 31-all and 33-all. Thanks only to a pair of last second Gryphon free throws did the Macs go into the break down, trailing by one at 39-38.
- Continuing their game of tug-of-war, both squads pulled back and forth on the lead, with the scoreboard reading 43-all with 3:33 left in the third. However, much like the previous quarter, the Macs found themselves edged by the slimmest of margins, this time down 50-48.
- Despite the best efforts of Koenig, Bessler and Rahamim, Yeshiva simply ran out of steam in the fourth quarter, finding themselves outscored 26-9 through the final ten minutes and ultimately dropping the contest, 76-57.
