Women’s Soccer Downs York, Picks Up First Win of Season

JAMAICA, NY - Finally breaking through for the first time in 2023, the Yeshiva women's soccer team felled York College, defeating the Cardinals by a score of 3-2 on Thursday, Nov. 2

Offensively, the Maccabees were led by the twin-headed attack of Leeby Levine and Agam Halperin, with Levine notching two goals while Halperin secured one just before half.

On the defensive end of the ball, keeper Maayan Berkowitz had a stellar night for Yeshiva, racking up five saves while facing down seven York shots.

With the win, the Macs are now 1-12 on the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Starting off the scoring early on, Levine found the back of the net in just the 20th minute, giving the Macs a quick 1-0 lead. With all previous goals coming much later on in their respective games, this score marked the earliest that Yeshiva had found paydirt so far this season.

  • Not taking their foot off the gas, the Macs scored again four minutes later, with Levine catching a beautiful pass from Ariel Melnitsky and securing her second goal before the clock read 25 minutes.

  • Despite York striking back in the 28th minute, Yeshiva closed out the half with yet another goal, this time off the foot of Halperin, going into the break up 3-1.

  • While York did manage to score once in the second half, closing their deficit to just one at 3-2, the effort proved insufficient to overcome the stranglehold that the Macs had on the match. As the final horn sounded, a feeling of jubilation erupted from YU players and fans alike as Yeshiva's first win of the season was officially in the books.
