BRONX - The Yeshiva University softball team dropped a pair of non-conference games to Brooklyn College, 10-2 and 18-1, at Bahoshy Field on Thursday evening.
Senior center fielder
Yael Dannenbaum had two productive games for the Maccabees (0-4) as she went 3-for-4 during the twin bill with a run scored, a stolen base, four putouts, and a pair of assists.
The Bulldogs (2-0) scored four runs in the opening inning of game one. In Yeshiva's half of the first, Dannenbaum and junior right fielder
Chana Karasik each reached base with singles. With runners on first and second, two outs, senior catcherÂ
Chana Fischer drilled a double to left center field that scored both Dannenbaum and Karasik to slice Brooklyn's lead in half, at 4-2. However, Yeshiva could not push across the third run during the frame. In fact, Yeshiva's lineup was held to no runs and just one hit the rest of the opening contest.
The Bulldogs added three more runs in the top of the third, two in the fifth, and one in the sixth to seal the victory.Â
For Yeshiva, Dannenbaum singled in the bottom of the third and stole second. Senior left fielder
Kayla Cagan drew a walk. In the circle, sophomore pitcher
Alexis Leibowitz threw a complete game, striking out four batters in the process.
For Brooklyn, sophomore pitcher Danielle Guzzardi struck out 12 batters in six innings pitched to earn the complete-game victory.
In game two, the Bulldogs scored seven runs over the course of the first two innings and never looked back. Brooklyn was powered by a two-run home run off the bat of junior third base player Yesileidy Paulino and a three-run inside-the-park round-tripper by graduate left fielder Isabelle Frank.Â
For the Maccabees, junior left fielderÂ
Kyra Appel produced an RBI single that scored Cagan in the bottom of the third. Dannenbaum and Cagan each reached base with a single during the game, while junior shortstopÂ
Jordyn Guritzky earned a base on balls.Â
Guzzardi stuck out 10 more batters, and did not give up an earned run, to earn her second complete-game victory of the evening.
Yeshiva will return to Bahoshy Field, on Sunday afternoon, for a non-conference doubleheader against York College N.Y. First pitch is set for noon.Â
