Men's Volleyball Cannot Sustain Fast Start Against College of Mount Saint Vincent

RIVERDALE, N.Y. – The Yeshiva University men's volleyball team dropped its Skyline match in straight sets to College of Mount Saint Vincent, at Peter Jay Sharp Center, on Sunday afternoon. Set scores were 25-23, 25-12, and 25-14.

Leading the way for the Maccabees (4-13, 1-7 Skyline) was senior outside hitter Shmuel Aberman who slammed home four kills, had three digs, added two blocks, and provided an assist. Graduate right side hitter Michael Stark led the Macs defensively with eight digs. Rookie setter Zanvy Lesnoy had a team-high seven assists to go along with one dig. Senior middle blocker Eliezer Benjamin generated three kills, four blocks, and a trio of digs.

Sophomore setter Eidan Horn also provided three kills, while tallying two assists and a dig. Senior outside hitter Benjamin Smillie scored a kill and recorded two digs, while junior right side hitter Eitan Cillo had two kills of his own. Senior middle blocker Yaakov Baker chipped in on defense with a pair of digs, while junior middle blocker Lavi Friedman added an assist.

The Maccabees got off to a quick 3-0 advantage in the opening set, but the Dolphins (7-10, 4-2 Skyline) then went on an 8-3 run to take the lead. Later in the stanza, with Yeshiva down by a score of 24-18, a kill by Benjamin began a run of five unanswered points by the Macs to pull them to within one. However, CMSV scored the next point to clinch the opening set.

Mount Saint Vincent led from wire-to-wire in the second and third games to clinch the 3-0 Skyline victory.

Leading the way for the Dolphins was junior outside hitter Kyle Thompson who had 11 kills, four digs, three service aces, and an assist. Senior defensive specialist Felix Paulino had a strong defensive match by leading all players with 12 digs.

Yeshiva will take on the defending Skyline Conference Champion St. Joseph's University Long Island Golden Eagles, on Tuesday night. The first serve at Danzi Center is set for 7:00 p.m.
