Softball Falls Twice to John Jay College

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – The Yeshiva University softball team dropped both ends of its non-conference doubleheader to John Jay College, 21-4 and 13-0, at Flowers Park on Friday morning.

Leading the way for the Maccabees (2-8) in game one was both senior left fielder Yael Dannenbaum and classmate Chana Fischer who each drew two walks. Senior pitcher Esther Miller produced an RBI, drew a walk, and scored a run, while sophomore utility player Tiferet Weissman, senior infielder Emily Zrihen, and junior third-base player Danielle Hornstein also crossed home plate. Zrihen earned a base on balls, as did sophomore right fielder Rebecca Kalmar, junior shortstop Jordyn Guritzky, classmate Kyra Appel, and senior second base player Elisheva Miller.

It would not be enough for Yeshiva, as John Jay's (8-6) lineup exploded for nine runs in the first, and seven more in the second. Graduate infielder Jailene Santiago and sophomore utility player Mackenzie Tresch each drilled an inside-the-park home run for the Bloodhounds.

In the circle, sophomore pitcher Jogelys Sanchez threw a no-hitter and earned a complete-game victory for John Jay.

In game two, the Bloodhounds scored eight runs in the opening frame and never looked back. Santiago struck out seven batters in three innings pitched to earn the victory.

For the Maccabees, senior pitcher Kayla Cagan had a productive day as she hit a single. She also pitched two innings of relief and gave up just one earned run.

Yeshiva will open Skyline play, at Manhattanville College, on Sunday. The doubleheader is scheduled to begin at noon.
