KINGS POINT, N.Y. - The Yeshiva University baseball team fell in both Skyline contests to the United States Merchant Marine Academy, 28-0 and 22-0, at Bartoszek Field on Sunday afternoon.
In the opening game, the Maccabees (0-15, 0-6 Skyline) were led by sophomore first baseman
Avi Cohen, first-year catcher
Mendy Kanofsky, and freshman shortstop
Jacob Rodin who each reached base with a single. Senior first baseman
Benjamin Brener and junior third baseman
Aharon Weiden both earned a base on balls. Weiden and Rodin each stole a base.
It would not be enough as the Mariners (9-5, 2-0 Skyline) scored 10 runs in the opening inning and never looked back.
Junior pitcher Tyler Reistetter struck out 13 batters in seven shutout innings pitched to earn the complete-game victory.
In game two, Kanofsky went 2-for-3 with a double, while junior second baseman
Sammy Greenberg and Rodin both slapped a single. Senior center fielder
Eliyahu Solomon and rookie infielder
Nathaniel Dery each earned a walk.
Merchant Marine scored three runs in the opening inning to take the lead for good. Sophomore pitcher Michael Monkevich earned the shutout-victory on the mound.
Yeshiva will host St. Joseph's University Long Island, in a Skyline doubleheader at Overpeck Park, on Wednesday afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
