PURCHASE, N.Y. - The Yeshiva University baseball team suffered a Skyline Conference loss to Purchase College, 17-3, at Purchase College Baseball Field on Friday afternoon.
The Panthers (6-9, 1-2 Skyline) scored five runs in the bottom of the second to take the lead for good.
The Maccabees (0-18, 0-9 Skyline) scored their first run of the game in the top of the sixth as first-year right fielder A.J. Zimbalist scored off an RBI single by junior second baseman Sammy Greenberg.
In the top of the seventh, rookie Jacob Shakin led off with a double. The next batter, senior first baseman David Price, launched a double down the left field line which scored Shakin for YU's second run of the contest. Senior second baseman Charles Bendheim reached base with a single to give the Macs runners on the corners with nobody out. Price eventually scored on a ground ball.
It would not be enough as Purchase went on to earn the Skyline win. Game two was postponed and will be rescheduled at some point later in the season.
For the Maccabees, sophomore catcher Mendy Kanofsky reached base with a single. Bendheim also walked and stole a pair of bases. Zimbalist earned a base on balls and stole a base of his own.
For the Panthers, rookie first baseman Liam Daly went a perfect 4-for-4, including an RBI triple, and drove in three runs total. On the mound, first-year thrower Brandon Reybok struck out eight YU batters, and gave up one run (zero earned) in 5.1 innings pitched to earn the victory.
Yeshiva will battle Manhattanville College, in a Skyline doubleheader, on Friday, April 21. The first pitch at Overpeck Park is scheduled for 11:00 a.m.
