PATCHOGUE, N.Y. – The Yeshiva University men's tennis team earned its second consecutive Skyline victory on Thursday evening, defeating St. Joseph's University Long Island by a score of 7-2, at SJNY Outdoor Field Complex.
The Maccabees (3-9, 3-1 Skyline) won two out of three doubles flights and then went 5-1 in singles play to earn the league victory.
"Good win by the team today in the extreme cold," Yeshiva University Head Coach
Jon Rubinstein said. "The guys did what they needed to despite the adverse conditions. I'm proud of them."
Seniors
Yoni Mayer and
Eitan Jeselsohn claimed the No. 1 doubles flight, 8-4. Jeselsohn was also victorious at No. 2 singles, 6-1, 6-2. Junior
Joshua Deutsch and rookie
Pinny Balsam won every game at No. 3 doubles. Deutsch was also victorious in all the games he played at No. 5 singles. Balsam dominated at No. 6 singles, 6-1, 6-0.
First-year player
Israel Bussu snatched a win at the third singles court, 6-1, 6-0, while rookie
Jose Hambra earned a convincing win at No. 4 singles by the same scores.
Yeshiva will host the United States Merchant Marine Academy, at Brookdale Park Tennis Center, on Sunday afternoon. The first serve is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
