NEW YORK – The Yeshiva University men's volleyball team dropped a pair of matches during its conference tri-match, at Max Stern Athletic Center, on Sunday afternoon. YU fell to New Jersey City University in straight sets and then dropped a 3-0 decision to the defending Skyline Champions, St. Joseph's University Long Island.
In the match against the Gothic Knights (8-5, 2-1 Skyline) set scores were 25-8, 25-13, and 25-12.
Leading the way for the Maccabees (3-8, 0-2 Skyline) was senior outside hitter
Amitai Kolom who slammed home three kills, produced just as many digs, and registered an assist. Classmate
Avi Braun scored a pair of kills and anchored the defense with nine digs. Sophomore setter
Eidan Horn led the team with five assists, provided three digs, had a kill, added a block, and scored a service ace. Senior outside hitter
Shmuel Aberman tallied four digs, while freshman setter
Eli Waxman had a kill, an assist, and three digs of his own.
In the contest versus St. Joseph's University Long Island (8-5, 2-0 Skyline), set scores were 25-9, 25-8, and 25-16.
YU was led once again by Kolom who generated four kills and three digs. Senior middle blocker
Eliezer Benjamin scored three kills and added a pair of digs. Horn recorded two kills, five assists, three digs, and an ace. Waxman chipped in with a kill, three assists, two service aces, and a pair of digs. Braun once again had a solid match defensively with three digs.
Yeshiva will battle Purchase College, in a Skyline battle at Purchase College Gymnasium, on Thursday evening. First serve is set for 7:30 p.m.
