Baseball Team Gets Shut Down by Manhattanville College

PALISADES PARK, N.J. – The Yeshiva University baseball team dropped two Skyline games to Manhattanville College, 18-0 and 22-0, at Overpeck Park on Friday morning.

In game one, Yeshiva rookie starting pitcher Jacob Shakin held the Valiants (12-17, 6-6 Skyline) scoreless during the first three innings. However, Manhattanville's bats exploded for six runs in the fourth and five runs in the fifth to take a commanding lead it would not surrender.

For the Maccabees (0-21, 0-12 Skyline), Shakin went five innings on the mound and struck out five batters. At the plate, he reached base with a single. Rookie left fielder Avi Cohen also produced a single, while senior right fielder David Price reached base with a walk.

Junior pitcher Jay Lockwood struck out 15 batters to earn the complete-game shutout victory for the Valiants.

In game two, Manhattanville scored four runs in the opening inning to take the lead for good. Yeshiva only managed one hit during the second contest, which was a single by senior infielder Charles Bendheim. Classmate Eliyahu Solomon earned a walk, while junior infielder Aharon Weiden managed a stolen base.

For the Valiants, junior pitcher Jackson Branigan struck out eight batters in seven innings pitched to earn a complete-game shutout victory of his own.

Yeshiva will host Farmingdale State College, in a Skyline Conference doubleheader at Overpeck Park, on Sunday morning. First pitch is scheduled for 11:00 a.m.
