Women’s Volleyball Downed by Maritime

NEW YORK, N.Y. - Still searching for their first win of the season, the Yeshiva women's volleyball team fell to Maritime College by a score of 3-0 on Sunday, Apr. 10.

Offensively, the Maccabees were led by Talia Finn, with the outside hitter notching five kills and four service aces on the day. On the defensive end, Ashley Botnick locked down the floor, securing a team-leading mark of nine digs.

With the loss, the Macs are 0-3, 0-2 in conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Despite falling behind 8-1 to kick off the first set, the Macs rallied behind Finn's deadly service. Nailing three consecutive aces, Finn pulled Yeshiva within three at 9-6. The set would continue to shift back and forth like this between the two teams, with multi-point runs from both sides causing the point differential to fluctuate drastically. A 3-0 run nearing the end of the period brought the Macs within four at 19-15, sparking hopes of Yeshiva's first set victory of the season. However, a 6-1 stretch from Maritime closed the door on the set, with the Macs ultimately dropping 25-16.

  • Looking to bounce back from the first set's disappointing outcome, the Macs kicked off the second going blow for blow with Maritime, seeing the score tied at 4-all. However, Yeshiva were unable to keep pace over the long term, falling behind 19-9. While three straight attack errors from Maritime put the Macs' score total into double digits and ignited hopes of a Yeshiva rally, a 5-1 run from the Privateers closed out the set, 25-14.

  • Jumping out to an early 2-0 lead on the back of excellent play from Ashley Botnick, the Macs found themselves once again matching Maritime's production, seeing the scoreboard read 4-all. However, Yeshiva could not match the Privateers' production, managing just five more points and falling 25-9 in the third and final set.
