Late Goal Erases Deficit as Men’s Soccer Draws Merchant Marine

KINGS POINT, N.Y. - Tying their second consecutive game, the Yeshiva men's soccer team drew with the United States Merchant Marine Academy, seeing a final score of 1-1 on Wednesday, Sept 13.

Offensively, the Maccabees were helmed by Andrea Lacche, with the midfielder tallying three shots on target as well as the team's only goal, knocking his final attempt through to tie the match in the 88th minute.

On the defensive end, keeper Kellian Marty did an excellent job keeping his goal clean, facing down 10 shots and allowing just one score, tallying four saves on the night.

With the result, the Macs are 2-1-2, 2-0-2 in conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Yeshiva dominated on the pitch throughout the first half of play, outshooting their opponent 7-2 while also drawing four corner kicks. Despite the success for the Maccabees, defenses reigned supreme for both squads, with neither conceding a goal. When the halftime horn sounded, the scoreboard read 0-0.

  • Merchant Marine finally found paydirt in the 57th minute, capitalizing on a free kick to take a 1-0 lead over the Macs.

  • Yeshiva's deficit would persist until the 88th minute, when Lacche took matters into his own hands. Making the most of a ball bouncing off of a defender and landing just outside the 15-yard box, the graduate student hammered a shot into the back of the net, tying the match at 1-all.

  • Despite Yeshiva drawing a late red card, the deadlock would prove unbreakable, as the game ended with a score of 1-1.
