MADISON, NJ - Suffering a loss for the first time since the beginning of the month, the Yeshiva men's soccer team fell to FDU Florham by a score of 2-1 on Wednesday, Sept. 27.
The Maccabees' lone goal came off the right foot of
Franco Busso, as the reigning Skyline Rookie of the Week found the back of the net early on in the second half. Busso's connection marks the third consecutive game in which the forward has scored.
Keeping his goal clean best he could, keeper
Kellian Marty faced down an offensive barrage from FDU, withstanding 16 shots while notching a season-high seven saves on the night.
With the loss, the Macs are now 4-2-2, 4-0-2 in conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- While defenses ruled the day through the first half hour of play for both squads, the Mac back four finally cracked in the 39th minute, allowing a ball to slip by Marty for a 1-0 FDU lead. That scoreline would last through the halftime buzzer, as Yeshiva went into the break down by a score.
- Not content to trail for long, the Macs found paydirt just over four minutes into the second period, with Busso slamming the ball past the goalie for his fourth goal of the season.
- The 1-all draw would not last long however, as FDU snuck the ball past Marty once again in the 61st minute, a score that would prove decisive.
- Yeshiva were not without their opportunities to put up another goal, notching eight shots in the second half alone. However, two red cards in the final 45 proved crippling, as an undermanned Macs side could not recover, ultimately dropping the game, 2-1.
