PURCHASE, N.Y. - Competing in their first Skyline match of the season, the Yeshiva women's tennis team fell to Farmingdale State University, losing to the Rams by a score of 8-1 on Sunday, Sept. 3.
Struggling early, Yeshiva dropped all three doubles contests, going into singles play down 3-0. Despite securing a win in the No. 6 seeded singles slot and getting on the board, the effort proved too little too late, as the Macs dropped the match 8-1.
About the match head coach Ira Miller had to say, "we showed a lot of improvement against the defending Skyline champions.
Sarah Grunseid and
Liana Friedman played particularly well in their matches."
HOW IT HAPPENED
Doubles:
- Despite the Maccabees ultimately falling in all three doubles matches, each contest proved competitive, especially in the No. 2 and No. 3 seeded slots. The duos of Micka Mimoun/Shira Adler and Sarah Grunseid/Sarah Liederman battled hard against their Farmingdale opponents, with both pairs coming up just short at 8-4.
Singles:
- Despite strong starts in both the No. 1 and No. 3 seeded singles matches, where Liederman and Adler drove their Ram opposition to first sets of 7[7]-6[1] and 6-4 respectively, the Macs could not rally enough in singles play.
- While Yeshiva did pick up a win in the No. 6 slot, seeing Grunseid take down her opponent 6-3, it was not enough, with the Macs ultimately losing 8-1.
