NEW YORK, N.Y. - Hitting the court for the first time this season, the Yeshiva women's volleyball team were taken down by the City College of New York, falling to the Beavers 3-0 on Sunday, Sept. 3.
Offensively, the Botnick twins led the way for the Maccabees, with
Ashley Botnick recording a kill and a service ace while
Zoey Botnick tallied a team-best two assists.
Ashley Botnick also shone on defense, leading the way with 10 digs on the day.
With the loss, the Macs are now 0-1 on the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Going full gas from the very start, excellent serving Elle Ohayon jumped Yeshiva out to a 3-1 lead early on in the first set. While a run from CCNY erased the Macs' early advantage, solid defense from the women in blue and white kept the contest close, with both squads tied up at 6-all. Unfortunately, that level of success could not be maintained by Yeshiva, as they were unable to answer multiple Beaver onslaughts, ultimately dropping the set 25-12.
- Despite CCNY jumping out to a 6-0 lead to kick off the second set, excellent defense from Yeshiva forced multiple attack errors out of the Beavers, getting the Macs within four points. While the Yeshiva defensive effort continued to chip away at CCNY's attack, it proved too little too late, as the Macs dropped the set 25-8.
- Looking to make the third set competitive, Yeshiva traded points back and forth with CCNY, drawing within two early on at 5-3. However, the Macs' efforts were not enough to stand up to the Beavers' offense, with Yeshiva falling 25-11 in the final set, 3-0 in the match overall.
