Women’s Volleyball Drops Tough Battle to Sarah Lawrence

NEW YORK, N.Y. - Competing in their first conference match of the season, the Yeshiva women's volleyball team fell to Sarah Lawrence College, losing to the Gryphons by a score of 3-0 on Tuesday, Sept. 5.

On the offensive end of the ball, both Talia Finn and Elle Ohayon led the way for the Maccabees, each notching two kills on the night while Ohayon also secured two service aces. Finn also stepped up in a major way on defense, securing two blocks, while Ashley Botnick locked down the floor with a team-leading 16 digs.

With the loss, the Macs are now 0-2, 0-1 in conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Yeshiva came out swinging to kick off the first set, going up 6-3 within the first few minutes of play thanks to excellent serving. While Sarah Lawrence fought back, the Maccabee onslaught would not stop, growing the Macs' advantage to 11-7.
  • This momentum would not last however, as an 11-3 run would rocket Sarah Lawrence past Yeshiva, putting the Macs in a four point hole at 18-14. Down but not out, the Macs continued to fight, with a Finn kill igniting a 10-4 stretch that pushed Yeshiva back into the lead and gave them two set points at 24-22. Despite their best efforts however, Yeshiva could not seal the deal, instead watching as Swarah Lawrence went on to take the set win by a score of 27-25.
  • Coming off of a tough first set loss, the Macs were unable to rebound, dropping the second 25-6.
  • Despite falling behind 11-0 to start the third set, the Macs rallied back putting up six points on the board to shrink their deficit to 17-6. A 6-1 run near the end of the contest sparked some hope for a Yeshiva comeback, but the effort came up short, as the Maccabees fell 25-13, 3-0 overall.
