BRONX, NY - Closing out the month of October, the Yeshiva Women's Volleyball Team fell to the University of Mount Saint Vincent, losing to the Dolphins by a score of 3-0 on Thursday, Oct. 31.
Offensively, the Maccabees were helmed by
Talia Finn,
Elle Ohayon and
Shany Elmaleh, with Finn and Ohayon tallying five kills apiece, while Elmaleh set up 13 assists.
On the defensive side of the ball,
Ashley Botnick came up big for YU, leading the team with 11 digs.
With the loss, the Macs are now 2-11, 0-8 in conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- In a period that saw the lead change hands four times through the first 20 serves, both squads traded punches back and forth early on in set one, with the scoreboard reading 10-all. While Yeshiva continued to fight over the next few points, the Dolphins were able to suss out some breathing room, seizing an 18-13 advantage that would ultimately lead to a 25-16 set win.
- Much like the first, the second set witnessed both squads firing on all cylinders, with the Macs able to seize upon a kill from Ohayon and a pair of UMSV mistakes to go up 8-6. However, the Maccabees could not maintain that same production in the face of the Dolphins' relentless attack, ultimately dropping the period, 25-11.
- Down but certainly not out, the Macs raced out to an early lead in set number three, relying on kills from Moriah Berkovitch, Candace Villavicencio, Ohayon and Botnick to take a 12-6 advantage. While Yeshiva were able to hang on to that edge through the next dozen serves, seeing it cut to two at 18-16, nine straight Dolphin points closed out the set, 25-18.
