NEW YORK, NY - Hosting their first game of the 2024-25 season, the Yeshiva Women's Basketball Team fell to Berkeley College, losing to the Knights by a score of 73-51 on Sunday, November 17.
 
Offensively, the Maccabees saw two players score in double digits, with Daniella Bessler leading the way with 19, and Tali Cohen putting up an excellent performance off the bench with 12.
 
Bessler also had an stellar outing on the defensive end of the ball, tallying a season-high 11 rebounds on top of three steals.
 
With the loss, the Macs are now 0-2 on the season.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED

• Both squads traded baskets over the first four minutes of play, seeing the score level at 5-all with 6:08 remaining. From there however, Berkeley was able to secure some breathing room, outscoring Yeshiva 10-3 to close out the quarter, 15-8.
   
• The Maccabees were able to crack double digits early on in the second quarter, closing within two points of Berkeley at 17-15 thanks to the sharpshooting of Bessler and Jasmin Maly-Danker. That momentum would not last though, as YU was held to just three more points on the period, going into the break down, 38-18.
   
• The Macs came out of the half splashing in shots, with consecutive buckets from Bessler, Maly-Danker and Naomi Sigman slashing the squad's deficit to 13 at 38-25 with 8:11 remaining. Much like the second quarter however, Yeshiva were unable to maintain that level of offensive output, seeing their deficit stretched back out past 20 over the next seven minutes of play, a margin that would remain through the end of the quarter.
   
• While the shooting prowess of Cohen, Maly-Danker and Shai Rahamim kept YU competitive throughout the fourth quarter, a shorthanded Maccabee squad could not overcome Berkeley's hold on the contest. When the final buzzer sounded, Yeshiva had lost their first home game by a score of 73-51.
