Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Scrappy Loss at Sarah Lawrence Closes out November for Women’s Basketball

BRONXVILLE, NY - Closing out their first month on play in the 2024-25 season, the Yeshiva Women's Basketball Team fell to Sarah Lawrence College, losing to the Gryphons by a score of 64-57 on Tuesday, Nov. 26.

Offensively, the Maccabees saw three players score in double digits. Shai Rahamim led the way with 20, while both Tali Cohen and Jasmin Maly-Danker put up 12.

Maly-Danker also had a stellar outing on the defensive side of the ball, pulling down eight rebounds while swiping three assists on the night.

With the loss, the Macs are now 0-5, 0-3 in conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Both squads traded baskets back and forth throughout the first quarter, seeing the lead change hands five times in seven minutes until the scoreboard read 11-11 with 3:15 remaining. Two straight triples from Cohen and Simone Amkraut managed to break the deadlock and put the Macs up four with 1:20 left, a lead that would hold despite Sarah Lawrence cutting the margin to 17-16 to close out the quarter.

  • While the Maccabees would maintain their advantage through the first two and half minutes of play in the second quarter, the Gryphons would tie the game at 20-20, only to then seize back the advantage two minutes later with a jumper in the paint. The Macs would not regain their edge before half, going into the break down, 35-30.

  • Yeshiva started the second half slow, struggling to put up points throughout the third quarter. Through ten minutes of play, the Macs only managed three field goals, trailing the Gryphons 50-38 headed into the fourth.

  • The Maccabee offense rebounded in the fourth quarter, shrinking the deficit to single digits just two minutes into play. Buckets from Cohen and Maly-Danker further closed the gap between the two squads, with YU trailing 57-50 with 2:53 left in regulation. Yeshiva's run would end there however, as the Macs would never come closer than within seven of their conference rival. When the final horn sounded, those seven points proved the death nail, as the Macs left Bronxville with a 64-57 loss.
