NEW YORK, NY - Taking on their penultimate opponent of the season, the Yeshiva Women's Volleyball Team fell to the United States Merchant Marine Academy, losing the the Mariners by a score of 3-0 on Tuesday, Nov. 5.
Offensively, the Maccabees were helmed by
Moriah Berkovitch and
Shany Elmaleh, as Berkovitch led the team with five kills and Elmaleh posted nine assists.
On the defensive end,
Ashley Botnick had a big night for Yeshiva, scooping up 12 digs.
With the loss, the Macs are now 2-13 on the year, 0-10 in conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Yeshiva struggled in the first set, managing just three kills as the Macs dropped the period, 25-8.
- YU once again fell behind early in set number two, trailing 17-6 after 23 serves. While service aces from Elmaleh and Elle Ohayon were enough to lift the Macs into a double digit point total, the effort was not enough to counter the inexorable USMMA attack, falling by a score of 25-16.
- Much like the second set, the Macs fell behind early in the third, losing 16-6. A Berkovitch kill was not enough to turn around YU's fortune's, as the women in blue and white dropped the period, 25-11.
