WEST HARRISON, NY - Taking the field for the first time in 2024, the Yeshiva baseball team fell in a 7-inning double header to the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts, losing to the Trailblazers by scores of 3-1, and 7-0 on Sunday, Feb. 25.
The Maccabees' lone run of the day came when an RBI single from
Coby Kamish sent
Joshua Mintz home, putting YU up 1-0 early on in game one.
Opening day starter
Adam Zahler had a solid performance on the mound, pitching for 3.1 innings and securing two strikeouts, while allowing just one hit and three runs.
With the losses, the Macs are now 0-2 on the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED - Game 1 (L, 1-3)
- Yeshiva's defense set a strong tone early, allowing just one man on base in the first inning while not surrendering a hit. Once the Macs had their turn to bat, they took full advantage of the opportunity. Mintz reached first after drawing a walk, and quickly advanced to third following a left field single from Noam Ouanounou. Kamish's RBI single to the opposite side completed Mintz's trip around the bases, bringing the senior thundering home for both YU's first run and first lead of the season at 1-0.
- While Yeshiva were able to maintain their advantage through the next two innings, MCLA finally struck back in the top of the fourth, driving in three runs to go up 3-1.
- The Maccabees were not without their chances to put up more runs, loading the bases in the bottom of the fifth with only one out. However, back-to-back strikeouts from Mintz and Zaine Weissbrot spelled the end of the inning, stranding all three runners.
- Despite advancing a man to third in the bottom of the sixth, YU could not find paydirt, ultimately falling by a score of 3-1.
