BRONX, NY - Playing in their second game of the season, the Yeshiva men's volleyball team fell to Lehman College, losing to the Lightning by a score of 3-0 on Monday, Feb. 5.
Offensively, the Maccabees were helmed by
Lavi Friedman and
Zanvy Lesnoy, with Friedman leading the team with seven kills while Lesnoy wracked up seven assists.
Lesnoy also had a solid night on the defensive end of the ball, recording the team's only block while
Eitan Cillo and
Amiti Trabelsi topped the stat sheets with seven digs a piece.
With the loss, the Macs are now 0-2 on the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Yeshiva found themselves in a hole early on in the first set, falling behind 11-2 through the first 13 serves. However, spurred on by a shattering kill from Friedman, the Macs fought back, pushing their point total out to 14 and drawing within five of the Lightning. YU's momentum would stop there though, ultimately dropping the set by a score of 25-16.
- Changing the pace of the contest, YU jumped out to an early lead come set number two, going up 5-1 off kills from Friedman and Andrew Pinchot. While Lehman would manage to wrest the advantage away, the Maccabees kept on fighting, retaking their edge at 13-11. It was then however that Yeshiva ran out of steam, only managing three more points as they fell, 25-16.
- While an attack led by Friedman, Pinchot and Jonathan Werta kept YU competitive throughout the third set, the Macs could not overtake the white-hot Lehman offense, losing the final set 25-16, and the match 3-0.
