NEW YORK, NY - Playing in the Max Stern Athletic Center for the first time this season, the Yeshiva men's volleyball team fell to The City College of New York, losing to the Beavers by a score of 3-0 on Wednesday, Feb. 7.
Offensively, the Maccabees saw excellent performances out of
Lavi Friedman and
Eli Waxman, as Friedman set a season high mark in kills with 11, while Waxman did the same in assists with 17.
Defensively, Yeshiva were anchored by
Andrew Pinchot, with the first year player recording a career best 10 digs on the night.
With the loss, the Macs are now 0-3.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Opening up strong, Yeshiva jumped out to an early lead, going up 9-3 off kills from Pinchot, Friedman and Eitan Cillo. Continuing to push, the Macs would maintain their edge deep into the set, establishing a commanding hold on the contest at 20-14. However, it was then that YU's vice grip gave out. The Beavers stormed back, going on an 11-3 run to close out the period, 25-23.
- Carrying their late first set struggles into the second, the Macs fell behind early, seeing the scoreboard read 21-9 late in the period. Down but not out, Yeshiva took a cue from their opponent's first-set turnaround and continued to battle. Galvanized by a series of back-to-back CCNY errors, the Macs embarked on a 12-3 run, closing within three points at 24-21. Unfortunately, YU's comeback would fall just short, dropping the set 25-21.
- Living up to how tight the previous two sets had been, both squads went point-for-point all throughout the third period. However, Yeshiva simply could not keep up with CCNY's dynamic attack. Unable to overtake the Beavers, the Macs lost the set 25-19, and the match 3-0.
