Box Score MANCHESTER, CT - Closing out a busy seven days, the Yeshiva men's tennis team fell to the University of Saint Joseph, losing to the Blue Jays by a score of 7-2 on Sunday, Mar. 10.
The Maccabees struggled early on, winning only one of three doubles matches to go into singles down 2-1. Unfortunately, YU were not able to turn things around in singles play, picking up just one more win on the day.
With the loss, the Macs are now 1-3.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Doubles:
- The Macs picked up an early point in doubles competition, with the duo of Mark Adler/Jacob Pfeifer taking down their opponents by a score of 8-5 in the No. 2 seeded match.
- Despite the early success however, YU failed to capture another win, as the pairs of David Cattan/Isaac Betesh (8-1) and Leo Rahmey/Harry Radinsky (8-3) fell in the No. 1 and No. 3 seeded matches respectively.
- With the lone victory, the Macs went into singles down 2-1.
Singles:
- Yeshiva picked up their second point of the dual match in the No. 6 seeded singles match. After dropping the first set (6-3) and squeaking out a win in the second (6-4), Israel Bussu outlasted his Saint Joseph competition in the third set tie break, coming out on top, 10-7.
- Unfortunately, the Macs could not replicate Bussu's success in any of their other singles outings. Pfiefer (6-4, 7-5), Cattan (6-4, 6-2) and Rahmey (6-4, 6-0) all fell in straight sets, and while Adler and Betesh managed to pick up set wins in their respective matches, they both ultimately fell in the third set tie breaker.
- As the dust cleared, the Maccabees left Connecticut with a 7-2 loss.
