Men’s Tennis Blanked by Brookyln

BROOKLYN, NY - Suffering their first shutout loss of the season, the Yeshiva men's tennis team fell to Brooklyn College, losing to the Bulldogs by a score of 9-0 on Wednesday, Mar. 13.

With the loss, the Macs are now 1-5 on the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Doubles:
  • Yeshiva quickly dropped the first two matches to their Brooklyn opponents, as the duos of Jacob Pfeifer/Mark Adler and David Cattan/Israel Bussu fell by the scores of 8-2 and 8-5 respectively.

  • YU's best chance of picking up a doubles win came in the third seeded match, when the pair of Harry Radinsky/Pinny Balsam forced a 7-7 tie-breaker. Unfortunately, the Maccabee pair was bested, ultimately dropping the contest, 8(7)-7(5).

Singles:
  • Despite their early struggles, the Maccabees fought hard in singles play, forcing all but one match to three sets.

  • While they managed to pick up set wins, Cattan (6-3, 6-4, 10-5), Radinsky (6-4, 4-6, 10-4) and Balsam (2-6, 6-3, 10-3), all struggled in the third set tie breakers, seeing the match decided when their opponent reached ten points.

  • YU's toughest clashes came in the No. 3 and No. 4 seeded matches, where Adler and Bussu forced lengthy bouts. In the No. 3 match, after picking up the first set, 7-6, and dropping the second, 2-6, Adler forced a 9-all draw, yet dropped the next two points and ultimately fell, 11-9.

  • Pushing play even further than his teammate, Bussu displayed Herculean levels of endurance in the No. 4 match. Winning the first set handily at 6-1, yet dropping the second, 7-5. The Israel native then embarked on a marathon third set, falling only after putting up 17 points to his foe's 19.
