NEWBURGH, NY - Taking on their second consecutive road double-header, the Yeshiva baseball team fell to Mount Saint Mary College, losing to the Knights by scores of 23-1 and 13-3 on Sunday, Mar. 17.
Â
Yeshiva's most explosive bat of the afternoon came from
Eli Zirdok, with the first-year player smacking in two hits and two RBIs over the course of the games.
Â
From the mound, the Maccabees saw a stellar performance out of
Jesse Rosenblum. Pitching for 4.1 innings, Rosenblum allowed just two hits and four earned runs, while striking out four batters.
Â
With the losses, the Macs are now 0-10, 0-4 in conference play.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED - Game 1 (L, 23-1)
- Matching up well with MSM early on, Yeshiva were able to keep things relatively close through the first couple of innings. After allowing only three runs in the first, the Macs responded with one of their own in the top of the second. YU cut their deficit to 3-1, as Rosenblum was brought home by a Zirdok single to left field after reaching on a walk and advancing on a steal.
Â
- However, any hopes the Maccabees had at pulling off the upset were dashed in the top of the third. Over the course of the half inning, three different YU pitchers surrendered 20 runs, ballooning Yeshiva's deficit to 23-1, a scoreline that would hold through the rest of the game.
Â
- The Macs were not without their chances to put up more points. In the top of the fifth, Avi Cohen and Eli Cohen made their way to first and second off a walk and a single with only one out, but were stranded by back-to-back YU strikeouts.

Â
HOW IT HAPPENED - Game 2 (L, 13-3)
- While Yeshiva were able to hold MSM without a run through the first two innings thanks to the stellar pitching of Rosenblum and Coby Kamish, the floodgates opened in the third.
Â
- YU surrendered three runs in the bottom of the third, and three runs in the bottom of the fourth, falling behind 6-0 before being able to respond.
Â
- The Macs finally got on the board in the top of the sixth. After clobbering a single to right field, Mintz made his way to third off a walk and a fielder's choice. Then, with the bases loaded, Eli Cohen drew a walk, bringing his teammate home, and closing YU's deficit to five.
Â
- Yeshiva would continue to shrink the gap between the teams in the seventh, seeing both Kamish and Victor Zebede stomp on home plate, with Zebede recording his first ever collegiate run in the process.
Â
- However, the effort was not enough to usurp MSM's hold on the game. Scoring six more runs in the seventh and eight innings, the Knights took the game, 13-3.
