Baseball Drops First Skyline Home Games Versus UMSV

PALISADES PARK, NJ - Hosting their first Skyline doubleheader of the season, the Yeshiva baseball team fell to the University of Mount Saint Vincent, losing to the Dolphins by scores of 22-7, and 30-2 on Tuesday, Mar. 19.

Offensively, the Maccabees saw a big outing from Eli Zirdok, with the sophomore tallying four hits, two RBIs and a run over the course of two games.

Also having a breakout day for YU, star roller and ice hockey player Sol Feder made his Yeshiva baseball debut, racking up a statline of two runs, two RBIs, two stolen bases and a hit.

Visiting the mound for the first time this season, Daniel Ganopolsky posted a stellar pitching performance, surrendering just five hits and one earned run over 1.0 innings pitched.

With the losses, the Macs are now 0-12, 0-6 in conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED - Game 1 (L, 22-7)
  • While the Maccabees allowed six runs over the first two innings, the men in blue and white responded in the bottom of the second, putting up three of their own. Notching two hits during the period, YU brought home Ganapolsky, Zirdok and Feder, cutting their deficit to three at 6-3.

  • Yeshiva would continue to answer Dolphin runs with ones of their own, clawing back three in the bottom of the third after UMSV tallied two in the top of the inning. With Coby Kamish, Assaf Perl and Noam Ouanounou all stomping on home plate, the Macs trailed by just two at 8-6 after three.

  • However, it was then that YU's momentum ran out. Yeshiva gave up two runs in the fourth, three in the sixth, and nine in the seventh. While the Macs managed to pull one back in the bottom of the seventh when Perl scored on a wild pitch, the effort was not nearly enough to erase the squad's deficit, as the Maccabees fell, 22-7.

HOW IT HAPPENED - Game 2 (L, 30-2)
  • The Macs struggled in game two, giving up runs in all but one inning. Yeshiva conceded one in the first, seven in the second, seven in the fourth, four in the fifth, five in the sixth and six in the seventh.

  • YU's offensive success came in the bottom of the sixth. After smacking a single to the second baseman and advancing to second on an Ouanounou hit, Feder recorded his second run of the day when he stole third, and then took advantage of an errant pickoff throw to come home. Following his teammate, Ouanounou made his way home on a fielder's choice, notching Yeshiva's second run of the game.

  • The Maccabees were not without their chances to score more points. In both the second and fourth innings, YU advanced men to first and second, only to strand them following strikeouts.
