PURCHASE, NY - Traveling up to Purchase for the first time this season, the Yeshiva baseball team dropped a doubleheader at Manhattanville College, falling to the Valiants by scores of 30-1 and 16-1 on Wednesday, Mar. 27.
Offensively, the Maccabees saw stellar production out of
Joshua Mintz in game one, with the third year player recording team-high marks of two hits and a run.
From the mound,
Eli Zirdok had an excellent outing for the Macs in game one. Pitching for 2.1 innings, the Brooklyn native gave up just four hits and zero runs, striking out one batter in the process.
With the losses, the Macs are now 0-14, 0-8 in conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED - Game 1 (L, 30-1)
- Yeshiva got off to a hot start in the top of the first inning, putting runners on first and third with no outs after back-to-back singles from Jesse Rosenblum and Mintz. However, two strikeouts and a fielder's choice left the runners stranded.
- YU's next offensive explosion came in the sixth inning. After singling to third, stealing second, and advancing to third on a groundout, Mintz rounded home when Jacob Shakin smacked a base-hit to left field, notching the Macs their first run of the afternoon.
- However, the success of the Maccabee bats were not enough to match Manhattanville's output, as YU surrendered two runs in the first inning, seven in the second, four in the third and 17 in the fourth.
