Baseball Downed Versus USMMA

KINGS POINT, NY - Traveling out to Long Island to take on a conference rival, the Yeshiva baseball team fell to the United States Merchant Marine Academy in a doubleheader, losing by scores of 29-1 and 13-3 on Friday, Mar. 5.

Offensively, the Maccabees saw stellar production out of Eli Zirodk and Noam Ouanounou, with Zirdok notching two runs, while Ouanounou tallied a hit and a run.

From the mound, Joshua Mintz had a solid outing. Over six innings pitched in game two, Mintz racked up five strikeouts while facing down 37 batters.

With the losses, the Macs are now 0-16, 0-10 in conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED - Game 1 (L, 29-1)
  • Yeshiva struggled in game one, conceding four runs in the first inning, four runs in the second, 11 in the third, one in the fourth, three in the fifth, three in the sixth and three in the seventh.

  • YU's lone offensive outburst came in the bottom of fourth. After drawing a walk and advancing to second on a groundout, Zirdok rounded home when Jacob Shakin smacked a single into right field, putting up the Macs' first run of the day in the process.

  • The Maccabees were not without their chances to score more points. In the bottom of the fifth, YU loaded the bases with one out, placing Jesse Rosenblum on first, Adam Zahler on second and Avi Cohen on third. However, a double play ball from Mintz wiped out any chance the Macs had to add to their run total, batting himself and Rosenblum out to end the inning.
