BRONXVILLE, NY - Closing out a busy week of play, the Yeshiva men's volleyball team fell to Sarah Lawrence College, losing to the Gryphons by a score of 3-0 on Sunday, Mar. 17.
Offensively, the Maccabees were helmed by the pair of
Lavi Friedman and
Eli Waxman, as Friedman led the way with nine kills and an ace, and Waxman posted a team-high mark of 17 assists.
Friedman also had an excellent day on the defensive side of the ball, topping his squad with a statline of 15 digs.
With the loss, the Macs are now 1-20, 1-11 in conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Yeshiva struggled in the first set, managing just four kills and ten points as Sarah Lawrence closed out the set, 25-10.
- Looking to turn things around in set number two, the Macs jumped out to an early lead behind the offense of Friedman, Jonathan Werta and Yaakov Baker, finding themselves up, 14-12, through the first 24 serves. However, this advantage would not last, as a 6-0 Gryphon run not only stripped YU of their advantage, but buried them in an 18-14 hole. Yeshiva would continue to fight, managing to draw within two points at 24-22, yet could not upset SLC's hold on the set, falling by a score of 25-22.
- Much like the second set, the Macs kicked off the third with another fast advantage, putting up four points before the Gryphons could respond. Thanks to the powerful attacks of Friedman, Werta and Eitan Cillo, YU would maintain that edge late into the period, leading their conference opponent, 22-21. However, showing just how quickly fortunes can change in volleyball, the Macs fell victim to a 4-0 SLC run, one which closed out the set, 25-22, and the match, 3-0.
