Men’s Tennis Picks Up Second Conference Win at Purchase

PURCHASE, NY - Tallying their second Skyline win of the 2024 season, the Yeshiva men's tennis team took down Purchase College, defeating the Panthers by a score of 6-3 on Wednesday, Apr. 10.

The Maccabees started off slow, dropping two of three doubles matches, going into singles down 2-1. However, YU was able to right the ship come singles play, capturing five victories to take the win over their conference rival.

With the result, the Macs are now 4-8, 2-2 in conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Doubles:
  • Yeshiva struggled in doubles play, seeing the duos of David Cattan/Leo Rahmey (8[8]-7[6]) and Jacob Pfeifer/Isaac Betetsh (8-2) fall in the No. 1 and No. 2 seeded matches respectively.

  • YU were able to pick up a win in the third slot, as the pair of Mark Adler/Israel Bussu dominated their opponents, 8-2.

  • With those results, Yeshiva went into singles play trailing 2-1.

Singles:
  • Down but certainly not out, the Maccabees roared back in singles, with Pfiefer (6-1, 6-3), Cattan (6-4, 7[7]-6[4]) and Rahmey (6-1, 6-1) all taking down the opposition in straight sets.

  • Adler and Bussu faced more of a challenge in the No. 3 and No. 4 seeded matches, with both contests stretching into a third set. Despite the challenge, the men in white and blue triumphed, posting scores of 6-3, 5-7, 6-2 and 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 respectively.
