FLUSHING, NY - Taking on the newly anointed Manhattanville University, the Yeshiva men's tennis team fell to the Valiants by a score of 8-1 on Monday, Apr. 15.
The Maccabees struggled early, capturing just one win in doubles play, and going into singles down 2-1. Yeshiva were not able to turn things around in singles play, dropping six of six matches.
With the loss, the Macs are now 4-9, 2-3 in conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Doubles:
- Starting out slow, the Maccabees kicked off play with a pair of losses, as the duos of David Cattan/Leo Rahmey (8-1) and Jacob Pfeifer/Harry Radinsky (8-4) fell in the No. 1 and No. 2 seeded matches respectively.
- YU were able to turn things around somewhat in the No. 3 match, with the pair of Mark Adler/Israel Bussu downing their Manhattanville opponents, and picking up Yeshiva's first point of the dual match.
- With the late win, the Macs went into singles play trailing, 2-1.
Singles:
- Yeshiva's struggles continued in singles play, with Cattan (6-0, 6-2), Bussu (6-3, 6-2), Rahmey (6-0, 7-5) and Isaac Bettesh (6-3, 6-4) all falling in straight sets.
- YU's best shot at a second point came in the No. 2 and No. 3 seeded matches, where both Pfeifer and Adler forced third-set tiebreakers. While both men in blue and white battled hard, each eventually fell, losing by scores of 1-6, 6-4, 10-6 and 6-3, 6-7, 10-8 respectively.
