Softball Takes Conference Opponent to the Brink, Falls at Sarah Lawrence

BRONXVILLE, NY - Putting up arguably their best performance of the season versus a Skyline opponent, the Yeshiva softball team fell to Sarah Lawrence College, dropping the doubleheader by scores of 12-0 and 8-6 on Sunday, Apr. 14.

The Maccabee offense was led by the duo of Ashley Botnick and Kyra Appel, with Botnick tallying a run, a hit and two RBIs, and Appel smacking two hits and two RBIs from the three hole.

With the losses, the Macs are now 0-24, 0-12 in conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED - Game 1 (L, 12-0)
  • Yeshiva struggled in game one, managing just three hits and no runs over five innings.

  • Those hits came off the bats of Appel, Tova Hakakian and Sophie Dubin, with Appel doubling to right center field in the top of the first inning, Dubin singling to left field in the second and Hakakian singling to second base in the third.

MAC LEADERS
  • Hits: Hakakian (1), Appel (1), Dubin (1)
  • Strikeouts: Sredni (1)

HOW IT HAPPENED - Game 2 (L, 8-6)
  • The Maccabees had much more success from the batter's box in game two, playing their tightest conference game so far this season.

  • Yeshiva jumped out to an early lead in the top of the first, with an Appel RBI double driving in Hakakian from first.

  • While SLC would erase that advantage with two runs in the bottom of the inning, a margin that would expand to 5-1 over the following four periods, the Macs would rally back in the top of the sixth. Talia Finn, Yael Genaur, Michal Becker, Dubin and Botnick all stomped on home plate for YU, launching Yeshiva back into the lead at 6-5 with just one inning remaining.

  • Unfortunately, three Gryphon runs buried the Macs back in a two run hole, one which the women in blue and white would fail to dig themselves out of in the top of the seventh, as three straight outs ended the game at 8-6.

MAC LEADERS
  • Runs: Botnick (1), Hakakian (1), Finn (1), Genaur (1), Dubin (1), Becker (1)
  • Hits: Appel (2), Botnick (1), Hakakian (1), Genaur (1), Dubin (1), Becker (1), Sredni (1)
  • RBIs: Appel (2), Botnick (2), Dubin (1), Finn (1)
  • Strikeouts: Sredni (2)
