MAHWAH, NJ - Taking on their final opponent of the 2024 regular season, the Yeshiva men's tennis team fell to Ramapo College, losing to the Roadrunners by a score of 7-2 on Tuesday, Apr. 16.
The Maccabees jumped out to an early lead thanks to two quick doubles wins, going into singles play up 2-1. However, YU could not maintain that momentum in singles, dropping six for six contests, and the dual match.
With the loss, the Macs wrap up the regular season with a record of 5-10.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Doubles:
- Getting off to a hot start in doubles play, the Macs saw two wins in the No. 1 and No. 3 seeded matches, with the pairs of David Cattan/Leo Rahmey (8-5) and Joshua Deutsch/Eliav Sacknovitz (8-6) coming out on top.
- YU's only loss came in the No. 2 match, when the duo of Israel Bussu/Samuel Pasternak fell by a score of 8-5.
- Thanks to the pair of wins, Yeshiva went into singles play leading their New Jersey foes, 2-1.
Singles:
- Despite their stellar beginning, the Macs failed to operate at the same level in singles play, as Cattan (6-1, 7-6), Bussu (7-6, 6-3), Deutsch (6-1, 6-0) and Pinny Balsam (6-1, 6-3) all fell in straight sets.
- YU's best chances at additional points came in the No. 3 and No. 5 matches, when, despite both losing their first sets, Rahmey and Sacknovitz forced a decisive tiebreaker. However, while they battled hard, neither could usurp the grasp their opponent had on the matchup, ultimately falling by scores of 6-1, 2-6, 10-6 and 7-5, 4-6, 10-8 respectively.
