Late Surge Not Enough to Carry Softball over UMSV

BRONX, NY - Still looking for their first win of the season, the Yeshiva softball team dropped a doubleheader to the University of Mount Saint Vincent, losing to the Dolphins by scores of 13-0 and 16-4 on Friday, May 3.

Offensively, the Maccabees were led by the bats of Kyra Appel and Sophie Dubin, with Appel notching two hits and a run, while Dubin knocked in three RBIs with just one swing of the bat.

With the losses, the Macs are now 0-28, 0-16 in conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED - Game 1 (L, 13-0)
  • Yeshiva struggled in game one, allowing 13 runs and 20 hits while managing just three base runners of their own.

  • The Macs were not without their chance to score, with Tali Schimmel advancing into scoring position in the bottom of the first after making it to second via a walk and a wild pitch. However, three straight strikeouts left the Maccabee runner stranded.

HOW IT HAPPENED - Game 2 (16-4)
  • Yeshiva's offense continued to lie dormant through the first three innings of game two, recording just one hit over that time.

  • However, emboldened by a walk of Olivia Peller, the Maccabee bats came to life, loading the bases thanks to singles from Schimmel and Tova Hakakian. Taking full advantage of the situation, Appel and Dubin then knocked home YU's first runs of the day, with Appel scoring Peller with a single to the shortstop, while Dubin's double cleared the bases and ballooned Yeshiva's point total to four.

  • On top of her offensive contributions, Schimmel also had a stellar outing on the mound in relief of Appel, allowing just six runs over 2.1 innings pitched.

MAC LEADERS
  • Runs: Schimmel (1), Hakakian (1), Appel (1), Ohayon (1)
  • Hits: Appel (2), Schimmel (1), Dubin (1)
  • RBIs: Dubin (3), Appel (1)
