Men’s Soccer Downs Purchase, Keeps Undefeated Conference Record Alive

PURCHASE, NY - Capturing their second Skyline win of the season, the Yeshiva Men's Soccer team took down Purchase College, defeating the Panthers by a score of 2-0 on Tuesday, Sept. 10.

Offensively, the Maccabees were helmed by the two-headed machine of Joaquin Merajver and Yonatan Reiter, with the pair accounting for both of YU's goals. Merajver's strike bore extra significance, as it was the first ever score of Argentinian's young Mac career.

Defensively, keeper Kellian Marty and the back line pitched a perfect game, notching their second clean sheet of the season. Marty only faced four shots on goal, tallying a save on each one.

With the win, the Macs are now 2-1-1, 2-0-1 in conference play

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • While both squads were kept quiet through the first half hour of play, the Maccabees finally broke through in the 29th minute. Executing a perfect give and go pass with Kfir Slonimski, Merajver slipped the ball under the diving keeper, notching his first career goal and putting the Macs up, 1-0.

  • Yeshiva would continue their push into the half and through the first 20 minutes of the second period, firing off seven more shots at the Purchase goal. However, none found their mark until the 76th minute, when Reiter smoked a heater of a shot past the Purchase keeper, doubling YU's lead to 2-0.

  • With the game all but out of reach, Marty iced the contest for his squad, deftly turning away Purchase's last couple of shots to secure the 2-0 victory.
