NEW YORK, NY - Taking on their first Skyline opponent of the season, the Yeshiva Women's Volleyball Team were downed by St. Joseph's University Brookly, falling to the Bears by a score of 3-0 on Friday, Sept. 13.
Offensively, the Maccabees were helmed by
Elle Ohayon and
Shany Elmaleh, with Ohayon tallying a team-leading five kills, while Elmaleh served up 13 assists.
On the defensive side of the ball,
Talia Finn and
Ashley Botnick had big games for YU, notching 13 and 11 digs respectively.
With the loss, the Macs are now 2-3, 0-1 in conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- While SJBK jumped out to an early lead, Yeshiva did not allow their opponent more than a five-point edge through the first 21 serves, trailing by just three at 12-9. However, it was then that YU's production fell off, seeing a 13-2 Bear run close out the set, 25-11.
- Much like the first set, Yeshiva kept pace with a dynamic SJBK attack, relying on kills from Ohayon and Finn to bring them within two points at 15-13. Repeating the same script however, the Macs would see their opponent seize control of the period, with the Bears riding a 10-2 run to a 25-15 set win.
- Intent to perform despite losses in the previous two sets, the Macs jumped out to an early lead in the third, going up 7-5 off of kills from Finn and Candace Villavicencio. This hot start was not enough to stymie a seemingly inexorable SJBK attack however, with the Maccabees held to just two more kills as the Bears took the set, 25-16.
