PATCHOGUE, NY - Still looking for their first conference win of the season, the Yeshiva Women's Volleyball Team fell to St. Joseph's University Long Island, losing to the Golden Eagles by a score of 3-0 on Sunday, Sept. 15.
Offensively, the Maccabees were helmed by
Talia Finn and
Elle Ohayon, with the pair each notching two kills a piece.
Finn also had a stellar day on the defensive side of the ball, tallying two blocks while
Ashley Botnick led the team with eight digs.
With the results, the Macs are now 2-4, 0-2 in conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Maccabees struggled in the first set, being held to just three kills and dropping the period by a score of 25-6.
- Undeterred by their slow start, the Maccabees rebounded in set two, jumping out to an early 8-1 lead. While SJLI would come back, tying the contest at 9-all, the Macs did not let their advantage slip, relying on kills from Shany Elmaleh, Candace Villavicencio and Botnick to extend their margin back out to 18-12. However, despite their excellent play, Yeshiva could not maintain that same level of production against an SJLI team looking to return to the Skyline playoffs. The Golden Eagles embarked on a 13-1 run, shutting down YU's hopes of a set win and taking the period, 25-19.
- Yeshiva did not have the left in the tank to compete with one of the top teams in their conference come the third set. The Macs were held without a kill, dropping the period, 25-6.
