NEW ROCHELLE - Hosting their final home contest of September, the Yeshiva Men's Soccer Team picked up an important conference win versus Sarah Lawrence College, downing the Gryphons by a score of 3-1 on Wednesday, Sept. 18.
Offensively, the Maccabees saw goals from the trio of
Alejandro Saul,
Frederico Dorra and
Josh Ziarno, while
David Abittan's pinpoint passes notched him two assists on the night.
On the defensive side of the ball,
Kellian Marty,
Yonatan Reiter, and the entire unit shut down SLC's potent attack, holding the Gryphons to just six shots, three of which were on goal.
With the win, the Maccabees are now 3-2-1, 3-1-1 in conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- While both sides were held scoreless through the majority of the first half, Yeshiva struck first in the 43rd minute. Looking to connect with an arcing free kick from Abittan, all 73 inches of Saul's frame stretched towards the heavens, heading the ball past the keeper to put the Macs up, 1-0.
- YU's lead would hold through the halftime break, yet Sarah Lawrence would strike back quickly, equalizing in the 61st minute.
- Undeterred, the Maccabees reclaimed their advantage less than seven minutes later, when Dorra caught the goalkeeper flat footed and nearly dribbled the ball into the back of the net.
- Looking to ice the contest, the Macs piled on a third score in the 77th minute when Josh Ziarno caught an Abittan corner and pounded it home, placing his shot just out of reach of the goalie's outstretched fingers.
