PATCHOGUE, NY - A rematch of last year's Skyline Conference Quarterfinals, the Yeshiva Men's Soccer Team were downed by St. Joseph's University Long Island, losing to the Golden Eagles by a score of 4-2 on Sunday, Sept. 22.
Offensively, the Maccabees were led by the pair of
Frederico Dorra and
Ivan Zirlinger, with each first-year player notching a goal on the afternoon.
On the defensive side of the ball,
Kellian Marty had a stellar outing for YU, facing down 16 shots and making seven saves.
With the loss the Macs are now 3-3-1, 3-2-1 in conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Yeshiva broke through early, taking a 1-0 lead less than 15 minutes in thanks to a devastating strike from Dorra.
- While SJLI would level the contest at 1-all in the 24th minute, the Macs recaptured their lead just 15 minutes later, when Zirlinger made the most of a penalty kick.
- YU's advantage would hold through the first 45 break, with the Maccabees headed into the half sporting a 2-1 lead.
- However, Yeshiva could not maintain that same level of success in the second half. SJLI tied the contest at 2-all in the 64th minute, and then went on to ice the game with two scores in the final 10 minutes of play.
