Women’s Volleyball Toppled by Old Westbury

NEW YORK, NY - Hosting their final home match until November, the Yeshiva Women's Volleyball Team fell to SUNY Old Westbury, losing to the Panthers by a score of 3-0 on Sunday, Sept. 22.

Offensively, the Maccabees were helmed by the two-headed machine of Shany Elmaleh and Elle Ohayon, with each player notching three kills on the afternoon, while Elmaleh also added two assists to her statline.

On the defensive side of the ball, Yeshiva saw stellar performances out of Talia Finn and Ashely Botncik, with Finn patrolling the net with two blocks, while Botnick swept the floors with nine digs.

With the loss, the Macs are now 2-7, 0-5 in conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Yeshiva fell behind early in set number one, trailing 5-1 and then 11-4. While the Macs were able to crack double-digits, the effort was not enough to catch Old Westbury's attack, ultimately dropping the set by a score of 25-15.

  • Setting aside their slow start, the Macs roared ahead in the second set, leading 6-3 thanks to kills from Botnick and Ohayon. However, the Panthers fought back, and while Yeshiva were able to stave off their lethal attack to the tune of 9-all 18 serves in, YU's offense simply could not keep up. The Maccabees kept the period close, drawing within two at 15-13 and five at 20-15, yet could not recapture their advantage, falling, 25-17.

  • Come the third set, a Macs team plagued by injury simply could not keep up with Old Westbury's dynamic offense, dropping the final period, 25-7.
