RIVERDALE, NY - Closing out September with a bang, the Yeshiva Men's Soccer Team took down the University of Mount Saint Vincent, defeating the Dolphins by a score of 2-0 on Sunday, Sept. 29.
Offensively, the Maccabees saw
Josh Ziarno and
Frederico Dorra both find paydirt, with the pair of strikers carrying YU to a dominant victory.
On the defensive side of the ball, Yeshiva saw a spectacular performance out of
Kellian Marty, with the keeper facing down 21 shots and notching seven saves, pitching his third shutout of the season.
With the win, the Maccabees go into the holidays with a record of 4-4-1, 4-3-1 in conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Yeshiva struck early. Ziarno took advantage of a beautiful pair of passes from Tal Benhamou and Alejandro Saul to bury the ball in the back of the net, putting the Macs up 1-0 25 minutes into the contest.
- The Maccabees extended their lead just before the half, with Dorra pairing up with Ziarno to outwit the UMSV defense and slip the ball past the keeper. YU's 2-0 advantage would hold into the break.
- While Yeshiva's offense was held scoreless throughout the second half, YU's defense stepped up in their stead. Despite the Dolphins holding the statistical advantage overall, tallying 21 shots to YU's 10, and 12 corners to YU's one, the Maccabee brick wall held firm, snuffing out a UMSV attack that had posted as many as six goals in a single game so far this season.
