NEW YORK, NY - Taking the court for the first time this fall, the Yeshiva Women's Volleyball team fell to Albertus Magnus College, losing to the Falcons by a score of 3-0 on Tuesday, Sept. 3.
Offensively, the Maccabees were helmed by the dynamic duo of
Talia Finn and
Shany Elmaleh, as Finn led the team with seven kills, and Elmaleh proved her sound setting skills with 11 assists.
On top of their offensive prowess, both Finn and Elmaleh posted stellar defensive outputs as well, with Elmaleh posting 13 digs while Finn trailed right behind at 12.
With the loss, the Macs fall to 0-1 on the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- While the Maccabees jumped out to an early 4-3 lead in set number one thanks to kills from Naomi Harpaz, Elle Ohayon and Finn, the women in white and blue could not maintain that momentum. YU failed to crack the double digit point barrier, ultimately dropping the period by a score of 25-9.
- Despite the early setbacks, Yeshiva proved unphased by their formidable non-conference opponent, coming out of the gate roaring in set two to the tune of a 7-4 advantage. The Macs maintained that lead through the next 12 points, relying on stellar defense and a Finn kill to stave off the surging Falcon attack. However, three consecutive Albertus Magnus service aces wiped YU's remaining margin, kickstarting a 14-3 run that would close out the set 25-15 in favor of the Falcons.
- Down but certainly not out, the Maccabees continued to fight in set three, drawing within one point at 6-5 after erasing an early 5-0 deficit. Kills from Finn, Ohayon and Elmaleh kept YU competitive, yet the effort was not enough to overtake Albertus Magnus, as YU dropped the final set, 25-15.
